A Bunch of Fives

So when all is said and done, we count up the kicks, handballs, disposals, marks, frees, deliberates, tackles and  fouls and translate them  into goals and behinds. Then someone, somehow has to work out why it was so obviously going to be so and what will happen in the future!! That’s the unenviable task of our resident expert Professor Statto, Nobel Prize Winner in waiting, who’s been explaining the meaning of footy life and giving comfort to his followers for years.

He’ll tell you why your predictions were bound to be wrong. He’ll tell you about the most outrageous possibilities to come. He’ll tell you, he'll tell you and he'll tell you…But whatever he says, remember:

2011 Round 15.... 2011 Round 14.... 2011 Round 13.... 2011 Round 12.... Round 11 2011

Greetings All!

It's three up for the Suns as the Tigers came through with another frightful display. Coach Hardwick really does have to take his team back to the drawing board and ruffle a few feathers to shake out the evil spirits and restore the Tigers' mojo. Meanwhile Score Fiver "Maruading Maurie" anxiously awaits Hardwick's call up as an emergency.

It was a fairly modest week again on the points front with the average score fiver getting a modest 22.06 points, half of the 41 points the Round 17 winner Diamondlady65 scored. Daics was off song with just 17 points while Magic Mike came in with 26 points.

Well folks this week for round 17, we will take a slightly different approach from the usual routine of reviewing the round game by game as I am away from my normal footy habitat of AFL and have ventured into the oposition code of RUGBY in SUNNY Queensland for the next two rounds. Two things I have experienced, firstly how lucky we are with the saturation coverage of AFL via media and television as well as the easy accessabilaty of attending games in our southern states, THIS i am sorley missing.

Having recently attended five games of footy im Melbourne on one weekend, I then had the privalage to CHEAPLY zip accross to Tasmania the next weekend to watchthe Lions v Hawks. So six games over two weekends = a jolly good time

Certainly the AFL have done a great job in expanding the code in trying to break into the rugby dominated state. Interstingly in 1987 the Brisbane Bears were formed and then merged in 1996 with Fitzroy to become the Brisbane Lions. Ultimate sucssess was acheived in the years 2001-2003 when the Lions won three premierships in a row under the leadership of coach Leigh Mathews and current coach Michael Voss who was captain at the time. With the introduction of the Gold Coast Suns who will most likely be sucsessful within 7 years as the young list develops, our Norhern AFL counterparts too are starting to enjoy the similar luxuries as the southern states with one weeky game now available to attend as well as some games now being televised live.

Secondly on a lighter note, ever been in the situation of really wanting to go to the footy but had a family function or special event to attend as I experienced over this weekend? EER tough choice this one especially if the game is only 5 minutes away. Well after some consideration and pondering as to what to do I gracsously relented and did the right thing, so I could build up some brownie points with the family which hopefully will allow me to get out of the house and go to the footy next week.

And finally folks just a few goal kicking stats to browse over until next week's report:

Again, congratulations to Diamondlady65 who won the round. Meanwhile on the global league ladder it's Yingmeow at the top again with 464 points and to featur in the top 20 you needed 445 points or better to knock off Teckert in 19th equal place. Look carefully and you'll see 2008 round winner champ slord creeping up the ranks with RobDeSantos from the USA once again featuring along with RWBHK from Hong Kong. So there's plenty to play for in the last few rounds!

Well my Cats tip came through, but my concerns about the Gold Coast odds were well founded! I don't expect the Pies to falter but 15 to 1 isn't the right measure my friends! After that yes the Cats and yes the Saints. Brisbane seem over rated. Til next week good luck my friends!
